Mangroves description
Mangroves are a group of trees and shrubs that grow in coast saline or brakish water. In Maldives there are more than 13 species of mangrove trees.
Mangrove habitat attracts majority of migratory birds that go through Maldives (bird names)
The species that live in the mangroves create its own ecosystem, starting from micro organisms, worms, snails, shrimps, crabs, birds completing a full cycle of life in these dense trees.
Sad truth is now we have to face massive loss of habitat due to cutting down of mangroves and land reclamation.
