Occurs in shallow lagoon and channel reefs at depths usually less than 3 m.

The cryptobenthic species inhabits shallow lagoons and reefs (Greenfield and Randall 2010, Tornabene et al. 2013). The maximum standard length is 2.5 cm (Greenfield 2017).
